The events happening in the DNAngel manga can be broken into several story arcs. The following is a list of arc names followed by a short summary and the chapters included.

The Beginning: The Niwa Curse and Sacred Maidens[edit | edit source]

Daisuke Niwa is an ordinary teenager until a genetic curse manifests on his 14th birthday: he transforms into the legendary Phantom Thief Dark whenever he thinks about the girl he loves, Risa Harada. The only way to lift the curse is to have his feelings returned, but Dark isn’t going to let him win! Unfortunately, Risa is in love with Dark, but the thief only has eyes for her twin sister Riku.

Daisuke is brought by family tradition to steal unique artworks as Dark, but his classmate, Satoshi Hiwatari, is part of the police force and suspects him.

Soon, Daisuke realizes his own feelings for Riku, and the rivalry between him and Dark thickens.
